PERIODONTICS & HYGIENE PROGRAM
Periodontium is the tissue surrounding the tooth that consists of soft tissue (gum) and hard tissue (bone). Long-lasting accumulation of plaque and bacteria on teeth surfaces is the most common cause of inflammation in periodontal tissue. Therefore we offer our hygiene program to remove the causative factor from the tooth surfaces and instruct how to maintain healthy gums.
Patients who are enrolled in our hygiene program benefit from periodontic checkups at our office at certain intervals which are individually designed for each patient. The hygiene program is also a key element in maintaining the results our patients achieved after the completion of their treatment at our office.
ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Root canal therapy is a procedure to treat irreversibly damaged teeth from caries or other external irritants. It involves creating an access to the middle part of the tooth (pulp), with vigorous instrumentation the content of it is removed followed by shaping the canal(s) and obturation or sealing the root canal(s).
Root canal therapy is normally done within one appointment unless special circumstances exist prior or occur during the treatment. After completion of the treatment in many instances the tooth needs to be restored using a post to anchor the restoration to the root canal area. Every tooth that has undergone root canal therapy is required to get a crown to prevent the tooth from future fracture. Evidence has shown that root canal treated teeth are significantly at higher risk of fracture, and since a fracture is unpredicted and uncontrolled tooth damage we can never guarantee that a tooth is still savable after such incident.
At Laird Dental Associates we strongly recommend our patients to immediately start the crown procedure after completion of a root canal therapy.
ORAL SURGERY
Dental extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons. Tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to prevent restoration is the most frequent indication for extraction of teeth. Other indications are related to impacted or problematic wisdom teeth and also to make space for orthodontic treatment in some particular cases.
