In some circumstances the desirable result may not be achieved by prosthodontic dentistry alone. In these cases the position of the teeth may need to be corrected orthodontically to allow proper restoration of the existing teeth and replacement of missing teeth. If there is a major tooth loss patient is a candidate for reconstructive prosthodontic treatment, but in cases of severe discrepancy between upper and lower teeth, an orthodontic treatment is required prior to reconstructive phase. This is also the case when the patient has lost one or few teeth and other teeth in the area have drifted.
