WHAT IS A 3D ITERO SCAN?

Please ask our knowledgeable staff for complimentary consult as well as your payment options.

The 3D iTero Scanner is one of a new breed of technology that is revolutionising dentistry.

These types of advanced intra-oral scanners work by capturing thousands of pictures of the inside of your mouth, and then assembling them into an incredibly accurate 3D model of your mouth, teeth and gums.

This allows your dentist or orthodontist to fully assess and inspect every aspect of your condition, and accurately plan out the stages of your treatment.

Although early intraoral cameras and scanners left a lot to be desired, the latest generation of scanners are far superior.

The dentist will use a specially-adapted, hygienic scanner called a ‘wand’ to take thousands of pictures.

The scanner uses medical-grade low-radiation lasers to take up to 20 pictures a second of your teeth.  The dentist gradually moves and rotates it to be sure to get a complete scan of your whole mouth.

As they do this, gradually a 3D model of the inside of your mouth will emerge on the iTero screen.  Usually this whole process takes less than 10 minutes.

Your dentist can then use this 3D model to assess your needs, determine what treatment options are available to you, and which will likely give you the most desirable outcome.

What are the iTero benefits?

ITero eliminates the need of taking impression (the big funny-feeling bad-tasting goop that is used to take a mold of your teeth). Our patients prefer our scans to traditional impressions. It’s quicker, it’s cleaner, and it’s far more accurate than traditional impressions. This means less time in the chair, and will result in a much more accurate diagnosis and overall treatment.

In the case of orthodontic treatment and specially Invisalign, we are able to show you how your treatment results will be right on the spot! Out patients find this extremely exciting!

How long does it take to take a scan with 3D iTero scanner?

Taking a scan is very quick and can be done in less than 10 mins. At Laird Dental we are highly trained to take scans as quickly and easily as possible. We also find that using scans instead of impressions increased the fit and efficacy of our Invisalign trays and treatments.

Why do you have a 3D iTero scanner at Laird Dental?

We care for our patients and promise them that we have integrated the latest technology into our practice to make their visit as easy as possible and to provide them with the best treatment results. What are the iTero benefits?

3D Dental Scanning Technology

There are a great many benefits of using 3D dental scanning technology like iTero, not least because of its speed.  The first one is that it eliminates the need to stuff a big wad of funny-feeling bad-tasting gloop in your mouth to take an impression.

Many dentists have been slow to take on this new technology, but one of the reasons it’s becoming so popular is that patients find it so much more preferable to conventional impressions done with that pink ‘play-dough’ that tastes like sawdust.

It’s quicker, it’s cleaner, and it’s far more accurate than traditional impressions. This means less time in the chair, and will result in a much more accurate diagnosis and overall treatment.

Scanning can identify key potential issues that could be missed by traditional impressions trays before they occur, allowing your orthodontist to mitigate them in the initial treatment plan

The second major benefit (although there are many more), is that it 3D iTero scanning allows you to see the effects of a treatment before you have it.

The computer imaging technology that is used to map out Invisalign treatments is the same used to put together your iTero scan.

This is particularly useful for those who are looking to have orthodontic treatment like Invisalign, because they integrate fully.

Our roots are in restorative

The power of seeing is believing is unleashed through iTero visualization tools. Keep your patients engaged throughout their entire treatment journey from beginning to end.

iTero TimeLapse technology shows patients how their teeth are moving over time. It can be difficult for patients to notice the small changes that are occurring between appointments. TimeLapse is a great way to keep patients engaged in their treatment by highlighting those changes that they cannot see in the mirror.
